Ionic Sulphur
Sulphur occurs in nature in a free state and in combination as
sulfates and sulfides. Five amino acids contain sulfur - methionine,
cysteine, cystine, taurine and glutathione. The rest appear as sulfate
within body cells, either free or attached to body constituents
such as heparin or chondroiton sulfate. The greatest amounts reside
in the hair, skin, fingernails, toenails and in joints. Methyl Sulfonyl
Methane (MSM) is an oxidized form of DMSO and has been used effectively
as a rich source of sulfur. 'Active sulfate' - Adenosine 3 phosphate
5 phosphosulfate (PAPs) is the sulfate donor for the formation of
sulfated proteoglycans such as chondroiton sulfate and sulfatides
in myelin synthesis and as the conjugate in liver sulfation phase
2 detoxification.
