Ionic Iron
Iron deficiency is one of the most common deficiency diseases in
the world and is more common amongst women than men. Many metalloproteins
contain iron such as hemoglobin, myoglobin, cytochromes, iron sulfur
flavoproteins, transferrin, ferritin, hemosiderin and ferredoxin.
Metalloenzymes that contain iron include catalase, peroxidase, phenylalanine
hydroxylase, tyrosine hydroxylase, succinate dehydrogenase, tryptophan
oxygenase, tryptophan monooxidase, ribonucleotide reductase, xanthene
oxidase, iron alpha ketaglutarate dioxygenase, proline hydroxylase,
lysine hydroxylase, homogentisate oxidase and cytochrome P450 monooxygenases.
