Vitamin B12 - Methylcobalamin
Cobalamin is derived only from animal foodstuffs. After absorption
it is transported in the blood as the protein transcobalamin. There
are two activated coenzymes derived from cobalamin; Adenosylcobalamin
and Methylcobalamin. Methylcobalamin (delete which) is used as a
methyl carrier to recycle homocysteine back to methionine by the
methionine synthetase pathway. Methylcobalamin obtains its methyl
group from methyl tetrahydrofolate.
